Description

4. Monday, Seventh week of Easter:

Jesus instructed his disciples further on the role his Holy Spirit would play in their lives and the life of the community:
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, the Spirit will guide you into all the truth; for the Spirit will not speak on its own, but will speak whatever the Spirit hears, and will declare to you the things that are to come. The Spirit will glorify me, taking what is mine and declaring it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason, I said the Spirit will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

The Spirit will bring the gift of RIGHT JUDGMENT so that we can make good decisions. If we are prayerful and attentive, God will inspire us to learn what we need to know as we search for solutions, to look at alternatives with creative minds, and to consider the consequences for all those affected by our choices. Thus, we may more easily put into practice the Gospel, the good news of Jesus’ teachings. Peace and harmony in human relations will follow and lead us to the unity that God desires.

Pour your grace into us, O River of Peace. Be the dew that refreshes us as each new day brings its challenges. Let us taste and see the goodness of God so that we may persevere with joy on the journey of discipleship. Pray the Pentecost Sequence:

Pentecost Sequence

Come O Holy Spirit, come and from your celestial home, shed a ray of Light divine.
Come, O Father of the poor; come, O Giver of all gifts; come within our hearts now shine.

You, of comforters the best, You, the soul’s most welcome Guest, sweet refreshment here below.
In our labor, rest most sweet; grateful coolness in the heat; solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light divine, may that Light within us shine and our inmost being fill.
In your absence, we have naught, nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness pour your dew; wash the stains of guilt away.
Bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill, guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful who adore and confess you evermore, in your seven-fold gifts descend.
Give them virtue’s sure reward, give them your salvation, Lord, give them joys that never end.
Amen. Alleluia.
