Caring for Our Common Home Task Force

Mission Statement: The Care for Our Common Home (COCH) Ministry at All Saints Parish advocates for the values proclaimed in Pope Francis’s encyclical, Laudato Si’. Through prayer, education, and action, we promote and provide opportunities for our parish to engage in sustainable practices to better care for God’s creation and our common home.

Since 2015, members of the All Saints Care for Our Common Home ministry have been working on reducing our parish’s reliance on fossil fuels. We are continuing that effort by installing solar panels on the church roof, a project which parishioners approved last year.

We are happy to say that 27 solar panels will be installed this spring, which will offset all of the church building electric usage.

We are now ready to “kick off” a fund raising event to help pay for the cost of the project, which is expected to be around $34,000. We are inviting parishioners, and friends of All Saints Parish, to donate all, or a portion of the cost of each panel. This donation can be made without, or with a designation in memory, or in honor of a loved one.

You can donate $350 for ¼ of a panel, $700 for ½ a panel, or the full $1400. Smaller donations (under $100) will also be welcome, and the Care for our Common Home ministry will match those donations with our own funds up to $1400. We invite others who’d like to be matching donors to let the parish know at parish@allsaintssyracuse.org.

You may even want to give your donation as a Valentine, February 14, to an environmentally conscious loved one!

To kick off this ongoing fund raiser, you can donate online! Be sure to indicate your name, that it is for Church Solar Panels, and the person you are remembering or honoring with your donation, if you wish to do so.

Click the link below to donate online! Choose other for fund and note solar panel, along with any memory or intention, in the notes next to your selection of “Other.”

COCH members have set up a solar fountain run by energy generated by solar panels which is a demonstration of how solar works, in anticipation of getting solar for the church. This video shows the setup of components hidden behind the door, explaining what each part is and shows how the fountain works. Check it out!

So, how does our use of technology impact our earth, and what can you do about it to bring hope? Read the following article and take action.

"Guide to Green Shopping"

Recently a teacher had her students go to our Caring for our Common Page for information for their project. Part of their project was learning about steps we can take as individuals to be more eco-friendly. The children wanted us to have their resource as thanks and they picked out a great guide to green shopping. Take a look for their many great ideas! "Guide to Green Shopping"
